The 24th Annual Swimming Gala
The 24th Annual Swimming Gala was held on the 27th of September,
1996 which was a Friday. The Aquantic Club had, once again, done a fine
job in promoting and organising the event. This was demonstrated by the
fact that many Josephians waited eagerly outside the Victoria Park Swimming
Pool long before the scheduled starting time of the swimming gala.
There was a particularly large number of swimmers and spectators on
that day. The F.1 students, participating in the events for the first time,
were eager to challenge the already high standard of swimming of St. Joseph's
College.
As the first races of the day began, the crowd broke into a frenzy.
Some cheered for their friends while others were impressed by the smooth
and powerful strokes of the competitors. The high rate of participation
and the swimming techniques displayed once again proved that Josephians
are not bookworms!

This year the performance of fellow Josephians was outstanding, as
a number of records had been broken. The record included the Open Grade
100m butterfly and 200m breastroke, the B Grade 50m and the 100m breathstroke,
and the A Grade 100m freestyle. A new record was also set for the 2x50m
tired swimmers race.
