The success of a club does not only rely on the hard work of the committee
members, but also on the active participation of its members. Therefore
before any club activities commenced in the academic year, the first objective
of a club was to recruit members. The Recruitment Week, aimed at providing
students with details as well as the latest information on the clubs of
St. Joseph's College and to provide a chance for all students to choose
from the many clubs they like, began on October 7, 1996. The function was
held in the New Hall, where over 30 clubs set up their stalls promoting
their clubs and recruiting members.
Being the second year in holding the Recruitment Week, all clubs gained
experience from the previous year and decorated their stalls especially
the display boards with all their efforts. Besides showing their excellent
art-work in decorations, the club committees showed great talents in recruiting
members by drawing the students' attention to their clubs' functions and
the members' privileges. It was not difficult to feel that you would like
to join all the clubs when you walked through the Hall. For the students,
they were also filled with enthusiasm and the New Hall was crowded with
zealots in every recess, lunch time and even after school. Although there
were no general restrictions on the number of clubs students could join,
our fellow Josephians chose the clubs sensibly and joined only those which
suits their interests or needs.
Under such
an organised and centralised environment in recruiting members, many clubs
claimed to have increased number of members which again proved the success
of the function. Recruitment Week also once again showed us that Josephians
are not just bookworms, they are all very active in participating all kinds
of extra-curricular activities in school.
