This year, the Annual Athletic Meet Heat was held on the 15th November 1999. Josephians from Form One to Form Seven filled in the pitch of Wan Chai Sports Ground. Participants needed to win in the Heat first before entering the Final, thus everyone is quite nervous about it. You might see that the atmosphere was not as tense as the
Final last
year, but you could still feel the excitement and passion of the competitors.
Early in the morning at about 8:00 am, enthusiasm and power intensified the spirit of athletes as well as their supporters. Some eager participants had already dressed up in their sports uniform. For the sports uniform, there were some new-looks this year - for some of them had their
newly-designed 125th Anniversary sports uniform show off.
As the announcer summoned the participants, the game began. Although it
was just a Heat, all the competitors made every effort for best performance. And undoubtedly the best players would be promoted to the Final in January 2000, which will be the first sports day of the millennium.
Unfortunately and regrettably, a Josephian who was willing to win, broke his arm. Although it was so painful, he did not cry for help despairingly. On the contrary, he kept clam, lied down and wait for the medics. This was an intelligent and sensible action. Moreover, all those who caught sight of the scene applause to encourage him. Some workers even rushed to him to comfort him. This fully reflected the charity and compassion of the Josephian Spirit.
At one o'clock, the event came to an end. Finally, we looked forward to the
Sports Day Heat Final, which will truly be a remarkable and the most electrifying event in the remaining academic year.
