Let's talk
about the extraordinary Dress Casual Day this year! Organized by the Community Chest, "Dress Casual Day" is
a brilliant idea. While the working class and students can
have a chance to dress casually at work or at school, the
Community Chest can raise funds for themselves. Our college
has always been a great supporter, and this year is no
exception. This year we had our Dress Casual Day on 24th
September, 1999. An interesting fact was that our Opening Mass was also held on this day. As the Opening Mass was considered a "half day off"
(we only had to take the first few lessons), we were even more "casual" than
that of the previous years.
The day started as usual with students going to school at usual time,
however, the most unusual thing is, that they are not in school uniform but casual clothing. The lower form students showed great excitement
and interest for not wearing school uniform during lessons. When the lessons started, the
Students' Union and the Social Service Group went into the classrooms to collect donations from students and teachers. Although students are only requested to donate twenty dollars, most of them showed great generosity and
contributed more. Our staff showed great support in this event, and all of them donated at least 50
dollars! Our charitable principal, Brother Thomas, even donated 100
dollars! How kind the hearts of us Josephians towards those in
need are!
This year, the Student Union's Chairman was interviewed by some reporters, and later, an article about our school's
Dress Casual Day appeared on The-Sun
on 29th September, 1999.
