 Introduction

On the 8th of Sept 99, the Board of Value Education will start the Good Learning Atmosphere and Good Discipline Award Scheme. The purpose of this scheme, as the name states clearly, is to encourage good learning atmosphere in the classroom and good discipline among students. Your teachers will monitor the behaviour of your class and every other class that they teach, inside and outside the classroom, and give scores for the quality of the learning atmosphere during their lessons, ranging from 0 to 10. They will also put the quality of your homework into their consideration when giving this score.

What can you do to earn high scores for your class?

1. Be quiet and attentive during lessons.
2. Participate actively in class discussions.
3. Don't leave the classroom in between lessons without getting permission from the teacher of the following lesson.
4. Be quiet while moving out from the classroom (e.g. to laboratories, the Audio-Visual Room, etc.) during lessons.
5. Do your homework well and hand it in on time.
6. Don't make excessive noise during P.E. lessons.

 Awards and Penalties

Each week, the total of the scores given to your class for every lesson would be added up and posted on a scoreboard near office, beside the scores of other classes in your form. The class with the best score for the month would be given a certificate However, there are some rules that, if not followed by you and your class, may lead to deductions of marks from the total score and cause your class to lose the prize to others. These are as follows:

1. Don't beg your teacher to increase the score of your class.
2. Go to school on time.
3. Don't be absent without giving an acceptable reason.
4. Don't shout in the schoolyard before, during or after school time.
5. Wear proper and tidy uniform; e.g. tuck your shirt in and don't let your tie go crooked.
6. Pay attention to personal hygiene.
7. Don 't go to school with an outlandish hairstyle.

Note that most of these rules are actually school regulations. At the end of each term, a grand prize would be awarded to the 3 best classes of each form for Forms 1 to 5 and the best class of each form in Form 6 - 7.

Prepare yourselves then for this scheme -your class is depending on you to make it the best it can be.
