 England Summer Language Camp 1998

The best way to improve one's English could not be anything else but to let him communicate with native speakers. Because of this, SJC organized a summer language camp with Excel Communication Ltd. during the summer vacation in Bromley, Kent, England.

A total of 51 Forms 1-3 students took part in this camp. Alongside with Brother Thomas, Mr. F. S. Chung, Ms. Alice Cheung and Mr. W. K. Wu, the team flied to England at the evening of 16th July. After a 13-hour flight, the team arrived at the Heathrow Airport of London at 5:30a.m. on 17th July England time. The team then set off to Bishop Challoner School, which would act as the training centre of the 51 boys. There, the team met their 4 English tutors – Mark, Morag, Annette and Shirley, as well as Fabianne, the activities organizer. At 5p.m., the host families arrived the teaching centre and picked up the students to their homes. Yes, the students were living with British families so that they could have more chance to speak in English. After the first day, lessons began in Bishop Challoner. The students were divided into 4 classes according to their English ability. Lessons were interesting with group games and writing workshops. All students showed excellent response to the lessons.

Besides English lessons, there were also excursions to many famous places in London, such as Madame Tussaud's, where waxworks of many famous people are being displayed, The University of Cambridge and the Trafalgar Square. There were also recreational activities like football and cricket for the lads.

Time flied quickly and 3 weeks passed by. Many of our students missed England and their fun-making tutors, some of them even did not want to go back to Hong Kong! Obviously they would hope to go to England again.
